Cardiac Surgeons, Endeavor Health & The University of Chicago: Section of Cardiac Surgery
Salary Range:
Assistant: $600,000-$1,000,000
Associate: $730,000-$1,100,00
Professor: $800,000-$1,200,000
The University of Chicago's Department of Surgery, Section of Cardiac Surgery, is searching for full-time faculty members at any rank who will serve as Cardiac Surgeons at Endeavor Health as a part of the Endeavor Health Cardiovascular Institute (CVI). The appointees will participate in all clinical activities required of a high-performing surgical division across six Endeavor Health hospitals—Glenbrook Hospital (primary CVI site), Skokie Hospital, Evanston Hospital, Swedish Hospital, Highland Park Hospital, and Northwest Community Hospital. The appointees' clinical responsibilities will include performing high-complexity cases (e.g., multi-valve, re-operations, valve/CABG, aortic surgery) as well as providing surgical support for structural heart (e.g., TAVR, mitral clip), electrophysiology (e.g., lead extraction), and advanced heart failure.
Compensation includes a generous fringe benefits package. Academic rank and compensation are dependent upon qualifications. These positions are benefits-eligible. The successful candidates will be expected to support a highly ranked, high-performing cardiovascular surgery program and to help maintain a strong working relationship between the University of Chicago and Endeavor Health.
The key responsibilities for these leadership opportunities include:
- Supporting and participating in all cardiovascular surgery services at six Endeavor Health hospitals, including oversight of the Glenbrook CVI, as well as building and growing specialized programs (e.g., minimally invasive valve, ECMO, aortic surgery, arrhythmia surgery, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, robotic surgery).
- Supporting strong working relationships with Vascular and Thoracic Surgery to ensure the provision of tertiary services at Evanston Hospital, including support for the Women’s Hospital, as well as partnering with Cardiology.
- Participating in recruitment and retention of a strong clinical workforce, including junior surgeons, APPs, perfusion, OR staff, and ICU teams.
- Mentoring UChicago surgical fellows and other trainees rotating at Endeavor Health hospitals.
- Working with Cardiovascular Surgical Associates and other external clinical partners.
- Participating in a collaborative environment that supports clinical trials, outcomes research, and scholarly activity.
- Actively participating in philanthropic activities to support the CVI and the Division of Cardiovascular Surgery is expected.
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent; 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois; 3) be BC/BE by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery or equivalent; 4) have completed an ACGME accredited fellowship and/or equivalent training in cardiovascular/thoracic (CVT) surgery.
Preferred qualifications include: 1) accredited fellowship training with a minimum of 8-10 years post-fellowship clinical experience; 2) demonstrable leadership in program building and recognition regionally or nationally for surgical expertise; 3) familiarity with, or prior leadership in, STS 3-star programs and with experience with ECMO, short-term mechanical support (e.g., Impella), and/or LVAD care; and 4) clinical leadership experience in a multi-hospital system and/or experience navigating complex health systems.
