It was the first academic health center in Texas and is home to the state’s first schools of medicine, nursing, and allied health sciences. The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at UTMB Health is rapidly expanding with more the 32 physicians and 8 APPs currently and with a faculty practice group enjoying the excellent infrastructure of 4 UTMB Health hospitals and numerous clinics that are strongly supported by its institutional leadership. The Department is a professional home for 10 general cardiology fellows / year, 3 heart failure fellows / year, and 3 interventional cardiology fellows / year; and is launching EP fellowship in FY26. The Department strives to create and maintain a positive, stable, and efficient work environment. The Department is actively seeking the following Faculty Candidates:
- Heart Failure-Transplant Cardiologist - The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) in Galveston, Texas, seeks an advanced Heart Failure and VAD / Transplant cardiologist to join its robust, academic cardiology practice at the level of Assistant or higher (all Academic ranks welcome). The successful candidate will become an integral part of our growing Department and the Sealy Heart and Vascular Institute (SHVI) and will work in a well-managed, robust cardiology practice with inpatient and outpatient clinical duties and a growing Heart Transplant and VAD program. The successful candidate should be board certified or eligible in ABIM, have undergone a structured heart failure fellowship and be able to obtain a valid Texas state medical license. Expertise in conducting clinical research trials is a plus but not required.
- Advanced Cardiac-Imaging Cardiologist - The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at UTMB Health, seeks an Advanced Cardiac Imaging cardiologist to join its robust, academic cardiology practice at the level of Assistant Professor or higher (all Academic ranks welcome). The ideal candidate will have experience in multimodality imaging with requirement to have Level 3 fellowship training in Cardiac MRI and Cardiac CT. Structural echocardiography experience is preferred as well as board certifications in Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology. The successful candidate will join the Sealy Heart & Vascular Institute (SHVI) as an integral member of our team and will practice within a well-established, efficiently managed cardiology program. The position will have a primary clinical focus on advanced cardiac imaging - including cardiac MRI and CT - with a limited role in inpatient consultative services and a modest ambulatory clinic presence. The successful candidate should be board certified or eligible in ABIM, have undergone a structured advanced cardiac imaging fellowship and be able to obtain a valid Texas state medical license.
- Interventional Cardiology Faculty Opportunity - The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) in Galveston, Texas, seeks an Interventional Cardiologist to join its growing academic cardiology practice (all Academic ranks welcome). The successful candidate will become an integral part of our growing Department and the Sealy Heart and Vascular Institute (SHVI) and will work in a well-managed, high-quality and robust multi-faceted cardiology practice with a large Cath Lab procedural volume. Besides coronary interventional skills, endovascular interventional skills are highly desired - and priority will be given to candidates with endovascular interventional skills and experience in the treatment of PAD. Additional experience in one or more of the following areas is also preferred: CHIP (Complex and High-Risk PCI), interventional heart failure, and/or catheter-based pulmonary embolism interventions. The Department is home to an ACGME-accredited Interventional Cardiology Fellowship program training 3 fellows per year. Successful candidates must be board certified (or BE) in ABIM and will have completed a General and Interventional Cardiology Fellowship program. They must also be able to obtain a valid, unrestricted Texas state medical license.
Compensation: A generous base salary is offered and is based upon Academic rank and experience with an obtainable RVU bonus program. Additional benefits include a relocation allowance, a superior family benefits program and an unsurpassed state retirement program.
